Mode of ActionThe active ingredient in Regent TS is Fipronil, a leading insecticide that is registered in over 70 countries for control of more than 200 insect pests. Fipronil's mode of action sets it apart from most commercial insecticides currently on the market as it targets GABA receptors of insects. GABA acts to “switch off” nerve impulses; therefore, blocking this action causes severe disruption of the nervous system. While many classes of insecticides affect the central nervous system, no other class has this specific effect. Since Fipronil binds more tightly to insect receptors than those of vertebrates (approximately 100 times), it is less toxic to vertebrates (mammals) than insects.
